It is all smiles for 20-year-old Chikondi Kamwendo who has emerged as the first beneficiary of the Kuthandiza Omwe Alibe Kuthera Kupita Patsogolo Project an initiative of businessperson and philanthropist Triephornia Mpinganjira.
The social media influencer, who is wife to business mogul and philanthropist Thomson Mpinganjira, launched the initiative early this month with the aim of targeting Malawian youths aged between 18-35.
The project required potential beneficiaries to submit business ideas to qualify for K1 million and K18 million is expected to be disbursed.
Speaking at the ceremony in Lilongwe, Mpinganjira said the project received over 38 000 applications after review of the applications and making physical visits to potential winners.
She said she was moved by the Bangula-based’s business idea as it represents a true reflection of what the society is all about after dropping out of the university due to lack of fees.
“She sells Zigege in a bid to raise fees and she targets to open a farm produce shop so with this K1 million. I am hoping this will unlock her dreams,” she explained.
Speaking after receiving a K1 million cheque, Kamwendo said she plans to open a farm produce store at Bangula where she will be selling maize, millet and beans at an affordable price.
“I am hoping I will make more than K2.5 million which I will invest back into the business until the second year where I will use part of the profits to return to school,” Kamwendo explained.
Last month, the business mogul also launched a K10 million netball and football leagues in Neno.
