Umunthu Plus Donates Equipment Worth K8 Million to Nkhotakota

In improving service delivery, Umunthu Plus Organisation has donated items worth K8 million to Nkhotakota District Hospital and Nkhotakota Police Station.

The donation, which was supported by Crossroads Foundation, includes computers, cameras, hospital beds, mattresses, aprons, and bandages.

Speaking during the handover, Umunthu Plus Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Lumbani Mgula, said the equipment will help both the police and the hospital to serve people better.

“This support will make work easier for police officers when handling cases, and it will also improve healthcare services at the hospital,” he said.

Mgula also shared that the organisation will soon build a Victim Support Shelter at the police station, with help from Tilitonse Foundation. The shelter will provide a safe space for victims of abuse and other vulnerable people.

Nkhotakota Police Officer-in-Charge, Assistant Commissioner Violet Kamwendo, thanked Umunthu Plus for the support.

“We are grateful. This donation has come at the right time. It will help us improve how we handle cases in storing historical information using the computers and assist people in need,” she said.

District Hospital Director, Dr. Jacob Kafulafula, also expressed appreciation.

“Some patients were sleeping on the floor because of a shortage of beds. This donation will help fill in the gap and supporting our communities” said Dr. Kafulafula.
