UMOZA BEEKEEPING GROUP RECEIVES DONATION OF BEEHIVES FROM CCEI

In a bid to promote sustainable livelihoods and environmental conservation, the Center for Community Empowerment Initiative (CCEI) has donated beehives to Umoza Beekeeping Group in Njiri, Nkhata Bay North.

The group, comprising 9 members, each received 2 beehives, while Village Head Yakwapula also received 2 beehives.

According to Jamwendo Phiri, Chairperson of Umoza Beekeeping Group, the members are thrilled with the donation.

“We are grateful for the support from CCEI,the beehives will help us generate income and improve our livelihoods.” Phiri explained.

Sangwani Mtegha, Project Coordinator for CCEI, explained that the donation is part of a larger project aimed at enhancing soil health and forestry management in the Kaning’ina forest reserve area.

“We identify beneficiaries and provide them with capacity building, resources, and support to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation,” Mtegha said.

The project, funded by the Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust, targets 6 groups in the area, with a goal of distributing 80 beehives. So far, 50 beehives have been distributed.

The initiative is expected to improve the livelihoods of community members while promoting environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture practices.
