Umbizo Cultural Event Set For January 11

The Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust is set to hold this year’s Umbizo Cultural event at the Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V Palace in Lizulu in Ntcheu.

Impi Kandi Padambo Ndau, Secretary General for the Heritage said the event is scheduled for 11 January, 2025.

Ndau told ProjectM that this will give a chance for the Maseko Ngoni King to interact with his subjects and address cultural issues.

He urged other people to come who are not Ngonis to join them in the celebrations marked by traditional Ngoni food and drinks.

“This event is not only bound to the Ngoni group but also people who feel free to come to join us,” he said.

According to the Secretary General, ‘Umbizo’ means a gathering called by the king, a historical and unifying event for the Maseko Ngoni from Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa to celebrate their shared heritage.

Bernard Chikuse said he would participate in this cultural event for the third time.

“I have been attending the cultural activities and I have learnt alot,” he said.
