Trash to cash project for bricks

The TRASH TO CASH PROJECT which was established in November 2022 has already surprised the country and left people mouth agape after producing bricks and pavements from plastic trash.

Lumbani Mvula an Executive Director for the project who is holding a certificate in monitoring and evaluation as well as certificate in human rights activisim and gender streaming told projectM that, he actively ventured into this project as one way of mitigating the impact of plastic pollution in the country and also deterring the increased illegal forest activities at Zomba Plateau and other forest reserves in Malawi.

“Look, currently alot of Malawians are using local bricks for building infrastructure such as schools ,houses among others hence land degradation and massive wanton cutting down of trees for brick burning, saying this has resulted into adverse weather conditions such as flooding which has led to acquatic loss of life and Biodiversity ”,said Mvula.

However Mvula stresses that, he was motivated by a fellow friend from Ghana who is doing similar project In his country .

He categorically said if perfected the project which has a team of 12 employees will help to create a moral climate in protecting the forest resources and empowering young people pursuing entrepreneurship financially and also the nation economically .

The young entrepreneur said bricks made from plastic trash can not be over emphasized. He juxtaposed the TRASH TO CASH PROJECT being one of the priority areas that will help the country combat climate change and its impact as highlighted in the sustainable development goals(SDG’s) as well as sustaining environment.

“As of now we are producing 20 plastic bricks in a day because we do not have the machine to produce more and expand the project to other places. We are now joining in with the rising chorus of concern to asking government, well wishers and non governmental institutions to come in and assist us with the machine so that we can produce more in the process”, He concluded.

The young man ,who stays at city boundary- chinamwari boys in zomba is equally convinced that the project will soon make it’s progress thereby creating jobs for Malawians.

Apart from Malawi a project like this is also happening in
