Technical Entrepreneurship Vocational Education Training Authority (TEVETA) is encouraging young Malawians to invest in vocational training programmes to build a successful career.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, empowering young men and women through practical vocational skills is essential,” said Modesto.
Gomani, TEVETA’s Director of Programmes, during a youth conference organized by the Mzuzu Diocese of Katete Mission.
“It equips them with tools and expertise necessary for self-development and economic growth, making them eligible for employment,” Gomani said.
Gomani emphasised the importance of engaging and empowering youths to become active participants in shaping the technological era.
“Young people need to be trained in vocational courses such as fabrication and welding, general fitting, and bricklaying, among others,” he said.
These skills will enhance their employability and income generation potential.
Amosi Katumbi, a diocesan priest under Mzuzu Diocese, acknowledged TEVETA’s critical role in equipping young individuals with essential skills.
“This initiative is designed to ensure that secondary school graduates leave with practical skills, enabling them to sustain themselves and contribute to society,” he said.
Leah Chirwa, Vice Secretary for the youth under Mzuzu diocese, thanked TEVETA for participating in the important meeting.
“Lack of jobs remains a big challenge among the youth, including those who have finished their university education. By leveraging these essential inputs, youths in the country can set themselves as models for innovation development in skills acquisition, thereby addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth in the country,” she added.
