Malawian football star Temwa Chawinga has made history by reaching a record 18 goals in a season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) after scoring in Kansas City Current’s 2-0 victory over Louisville Racing.
A lot was expected for the Malawian soccer ace especially from KC Current fans to equal the record with three matches.
Temwa did it in spectacular fashion when she scored just two minutes into the match.
Despite the early lead, fourth-positioned KC Current battled their way to secure an important win to inch closer to third-placed Gotham FC who are separated by a point with Temwa’s team at 46 points.
US footballer Vanessa diBernado ensured the victory when she scored in the 86th minute.
KC Current, who have been anticipating the feat, paid tribute to the Malawi through heartwarming posts on their social media platforms such as Facebook and X formerly known as Twitter.
