TABITHA WINS FRENCH PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Malawi Women’s National Women’s Football Team and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Tabitha TC11 Chawinga has been named the 2023-2024 player of the season for the French D1 Arkema League following her outstanding performance in the League. 

Chawinga’s award follows a competition with teammate Grace Geroyo and Lindsey Horan from Olympique Lyonnais for the esteemed accolade. 

The striker has made a significant impact in the French D1 Arkema League, leading both the scoring and assist charts on her debut season.

Chawinga, on loan at PSG this season from Wuhan Jianghan University in China, has won the top individual prize for her 18 goals and 10 assists during the league. 

The victory has also come at a time when she was honoured with the player of the month award for the month of March in the league, she is also a contender for the 2023 Cosafa inaugural player of the year award alongside Racheal Kudananji, the winner will be announced on 9 May 2024.

In the previous season, she claimed the Italian Women’s Footballer of the year award after netting 23 goals for Inter Milan women in just 21 matches winning the golden boot award. 

Speaking with ProjectM in an interview, Lustica Gondwe, Secretary General for National Women’s Football Association has commended Chawinga for the prestigious award. 

“Tabitha is a true reflection of what hard work and determination is all about. Last week, she won player of the month award for her league and to hear that she has earned another award in a role is encouraging news. She continues to represent Malawi well, she said. 

Chawinga’s outstanding performance has led PSG into the final of the French de Coupe with her four goals.
