Government has underlined the need for Malawians to prioritize purchase of goods manufactured in Malawi as one way of supporting the local manufacturing industry.
Trade and industry minister, Sosten Gwengwe has made the appeal Wednesday in Lilongwe during the launch of locally manufactured bulbs called “Eka-Lite LED bulbs”.
The bulbs are being manufactured by DEK Engineering, a company founded by innovator, Daniel Ekari Kwizombe.
Speaking during the launch, Gwengwe commended Kwizombe for coming up with the Innovation, saying it will help to uplift the county’s energy sector.
“Youthful innovators like Daniel need our support as a country because if we purchase their products, we are going to uplift their trade,” Gwengwe said.
The minister added that the coming in of Eka-Lite LED bulbs on the local market will save the country millions of forex that is usually used to import similar products.
In his remarks, Kwizombe hailed the bulbs calling them durable.
“I challenge you to purchase these bulbs today and witness their performance,” Kwizombe said.
The launch brought together officials from government, the private sector, representatives from the diplomatic community and the media.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, Kwizombe also thanked ProjectM for being among media platforms that gave him a chance to explain to Malawians about his invention prior to its launch.
