Steward Nankhumwa, a form four student at High Profile Private Secondary school in Zomba has set up a radio station which is covering a radius of 6 kilometres.
Nankhumwa told ProjectM, the radio can be heard in areas of Namalaka, St. Mary’s and Mpondabwino around Zomba city in the Southern region of Malawi.
‘I aim for the community in Zomba to reap the benefits of this radio station. This platform will allow them to advertise their products and services and stay up-to-date with current events’, said the young ambitious boy.
He has however, requested the collaboration of his colleagues in innovation to advance and showcase their expertise.
He said: ‘For instance, China and Japan have achieved extensive growth due to their adoption of new innovations. As innovators, it is essential that we collaborate to advance our own nation. I challenge you! If we unite our efforts, it is achievable to elevate Malawi within 6 years.’
Steward Nankhumwa has asked well-wishers to financially support him to boost his skills.
‘I amassed a sum of around 80 thousand kwacha in order to establish this radio station. Upon receiving my pocket money from my parents, I made the decision to reserve a portion of it’, Nankhumwa emphasised.
Earlier this year, Steward created a Wi-Fi device which he said can connect to the internet without data, which earned him a scholarship at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) through Malawi 2063 Youth Innovation Programme.
