Standard Bank Injects K15m into National Robotics’ Youth Innovation

Standard Bank Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing technology education and youth empowerment by investing K15 million in the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge competition held on 22 April at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

According to a statement, the bank issued, the event drew young innovators aged between 13 and 19 across Malawi to showcase home-grown solutions in robotics and artificial intelligence as part of  Malawi Girls Can Code Too project funded by Embassy of Ireland.

Said the bank’s Head of Marketing and Branding Tamanda Ng’ombe: “Our participation in this challenge reflects Standard Bank’s commitment to rebuilding a future where technology serves as as a tool for positive change and we are proud to stand alongside our partners in nurturing forward-thinking solution-oriented young minds. 

“It reflects our unwavering commitment to unlocking potential through digital education, supporting inclusive innovation and empowering the next generation to shape Malawi envisioned in Vision 2063.”

UN Women Country Representative Letty Chiwara commended the bank’s commitment to supporting the initiative.

She said: “Standard Bank’s investment in youth innovation is a powerful testament to driving Malawi’s growth. We are proud to support initiatives that nurture innovations, promote gender equality and equip young people with digital skills needed to shape a sustainable future.

“Standard Bank remains steadfast in its mission to drive national progress by investing in education, supporting innovations and creating tangible opportunities for future change-makers.”

Chawara said by partnering with like-minded stakeholders the bank continues to unlock potential young Malawians and empower them through technology.

The initiative is supported by UN Women in partnership with Ministry of Education and Gender, iMosys, UNDP and International Telecommunication Union.
