SRWB TO SUPPLY WATER TO CHIKWAWA BOMA

The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) says it is going to supply water to Chikwawa Boma which is free from salt once the completion of the phase one of the Shire Valley Transformation Programme (SVTP) project.

Engineer for the SRWB, Luwis Mkandawire revealed this on Tuesday during the District Stakeholders Consultative Committee (DSCC) members visit to the site.

He told ProjectM that the SRWB will draw water from the canal which will be treated before supplying to the communities.

Mkandawire said the Water Board will be reaching out to Chikwawa Boma which has salty waters currently.

The engineer assured the visiting committee members that by June,2025 water will be supplied to the boma.

“Once the project is completed the SRWB will be in position to provide fresh water to Chikwawa Boma,” he said.

Senior Chief Ngabu of Chikwawa hailed the SRWB for the project which is going to bail out the residents around Chikwawa Boma from using the salty water.

He said the initiative to supply fresh water to Chikwawa Boma which has been the victim of salty water.

” My subjects are still waiting to benefit from the SRWB project to access the safe and clean water once the project gets to this area,” he said.

The Senior Chief added that the residents should not be worried with the extraction of water from the canals which will not affect the operations of the cooperatives.

The SRWB project is being implemented by SinoHydro Company.
