Sports Council calls Athletes to Camp for Region Five Games

The Malawi National Council of Sports has called athletes for a second training camp for the African Union Sports Council (Ausc) Region 5 Youth Games scheduled for Namibia in June 2025 will run between December 22 2024 and January 2 2025 in Blantyre.

According to a statement from Malawi National Council of Sports, signed by chief executive officer Dr Henry Kamata, the athletes will camp for 10 days at Henry Henderson School of Excellence in Blantyre.

The statement further said 300 athletes from 14 disciplines from whom 210 will make the final cut.

The sporting codes are table tennis, boxing, netball, lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, karate, e-sports, judo, football, special Olympics, swimming, athletics and Para-athletics (visually impaired).

Reads the statement in part: “The training sessions will take place at various facilities, including Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre Youth Centre, Mpira Stadium, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences [Kuhes] Sports Complex and Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences [Mubas].

“This is the second of the three planned camps. The first camp was held in August 2024 and the third and last camp will be held in April 2025.”

Sports Council spokesperson Edgar Ntulumbwa said coaches in different codes are expected to name their final teams after the second camping.

Sports comprehensive measures have been put in place to ensure the safety, security and well-being of all athletes and officials during the camping period.
