Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba has secured a prestigious Master’s degree UK’s Chevening Scholarship to study Sport Management and the Business of Football at Birkbeck University of London in England.
A message from British High Commission reads: “Congratulations to Patrick Lonjezo Chimimba who has been #ChosenForChevening in 2024/25. He will be going to England to study MSc Sport Management and the Business of Football at Birkbeck University of London.
“Lonjezo works for Silver Strikers Limited as a Chief Executive Officer. He is also a Director of Operations for Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu.”
Silver Strikers welcomed the news in a statement, saying the scholarship is a milestone in his career.
Reads a statement on the club’s official Facebook Page: “Your selection to pursue a MSc in Sport Management and the Business of Football at Birkbeck University of London is a testament to your dedication and vision in the football industry.
“This achievement is a significant milestone, and we know you will continue to excel and bring great insights to the game we all love.”
Chimimba, who is a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration holder from the University of Malawi and MSc in Management Studies, was excited with the scholarship.
“Today I am proud of the new direction my love for football has taken. I am about to embark on my Chevening journey. The journey to this point has been challenging yet exhilarating.
“By December 2023, I had received conditional offers. Sport Management from Portsmouth, Sports Development at Leeds Beckett and two from Birkbeck University London: Sports Management and Marketing and Sports Management and the Business of Football.
“The latter was a Eureka moment for me. The decision was made. As I look forward to undertake my studies, I am filled with gratitude. The journey continues and I thank God for guiding me.”
The scholarship underlines a growing cadre of professionals who have taken up sports studies and universities offered at, among others Malawi University of Sciences and Technology, Mzuzu University and Domasi College of Education.
