People of all walks of life on Saturday night gathered at Bangula Trading Centre in the area of Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje to remember their fallen artists as the Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Heritage (KACH) held a memorial music show.
The remembered fallen stars included Katelele Ching’oma, Joseph Tembo, Grace Chinga, DJ Sautso Ndalama and Hollyman Nyantawa.
The memorial show was for the first time to be conducted by the Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Heritage since its interception in 2022.
Coordinator for the Khulubvi Arts and Cultural Festival Eric Trinta said this show was planned to be at Bangula Trading Centre for a number of reasons.
He said since the start of the festival we have been engaging the Late Katelele Ching’oma as our guest artist so we wanted to honor him before this year’s festival.
“So we want to remember Ching’oma and other fallen artists from the Shire Valley districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje hence the inclusion of others,” he said.
Trinta told ProjectM that it was agreed that the memorial show be conducted outside the Boma and the management and the 2024 KACF came up with Bangula Trading Centre.
A Bangula resident Mike Banda hailed the organizers for bringing the show to Bangula.
He said the communities of Bangula felt greatly honored by the remembrance of Hollyman Nyantawa of Gaka Community Radio Station and Sautso Ndalama.
“DJ Ndalama and Nyantawa were our own artists who made great contributions to the societies within as well as outside Bangula Trading Centre,” said Banda.
Senior GroupVillageHeadman Nyang’a has appealed to the organizers to make the event to be an annual one.
” This should not be the first time but it shoud be an ongoing one as it reminds us of our own artists who made huge impact to the development of music,” said the senior traditional leader.
The SGVH also said the locals cannot afford to come to Nsanje Prison for the KACF but by coming to Bangula Trading Centre is of great importance.
