SENIOR CHIEF NGABU IMPRESSED WITH THE STVP PROJECT PROGRESS

Senior Chief Ngabu of Chikwawa has expressed satisfaction with the standard and progress of the construction works of the Multi-Billion Kwacha Shire Valley Transformation Programme (SVTP) project implemented in the Shire Valley which is the largest in Central Africa.

He echoed the sentiments on Tuesday when he officially presided over the District Stakeholders Consultantive Committee ( DSCC) for the district.

Ngabu said the committee paid a visit to see for themselves on the progress on the ground.

Speaking to ProjectM, Senior Chief Ngabu said the entire committee is satisfied with the development being undertaken at the site.

“The contractors are doing their works effectively and of good quality and standard,” he said.

In his remarks, Deputy Coordinator for the SVTP, Limbani Gomani said that despite the standard construction works the project is affected with the country’s current fuel situation.

He was quick to say that the consultations have been made with the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) to prioritize the supply fuel to the project.

“Our contractor’s machines requires 40,000 litres per week for the operational the machines,” he said.

Meanwhile two of the 13 cooperatives are expected to use water from the cannels by June 2025.

The SVTP project started in 2018 which is aimed at revamping agricultural productivity and commercialisation reaching out to over 43,000 households.
