Rute Meleka: The Soap Making Entrepreneur with a Heart

As the rainy season sets in, a local entrepreneur Rute Meleka, is taking steps to protect primary school learners from diseases associated with the rains.

Meleka, who manufactures liquid soap on a small-scale, has pledged to donate liquid soap to rural primary schools in Nkhata Bay and Mzimba.

“I want to help prevent the spread of diseases such as cholera, which often affects rural communities during the rainy season,” she said.

Meleka, who was taught soap-making skills by innovator Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira in 2022, produces the liquid soap manually. She currently has 300 bottles of liquid soap ready for donation.

However, Meleka is calling on well-wishers to support her initiative, saying she needs additional resources to reach more schools.

“I urge individuals and organisations to join me in this effort to promote hygiene and prevent diseases in our rural communities,” she added.

Meleka’s initiative is aimed at promoting cleanliness and good health, especially in rural areas where access to basic hygiene facilities is limited.

The 26-year-old said she will start this initiative this December after finishing some few things
