The Malawi Boxing Association (MABA) has disclosed that it will conduct the Southern Region Under-20 Region 5 identification tournament at Wanderers Club on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
The event is aimed at selecting young boxing talent to represent Malawi at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 games, scheduled for May next year in Namibia.
The tournament is also one of MABA’s strategies in nurturing and promoting young boxers, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills while securing a place in the national team.
Through the identification tournament, selected boxers will enter their first training camp next month so that they are well-prepared for the upcoming AUSC games.
The Southern Region tournament will also be held in the Central and Northern regions as one way of identifying and developing boxing talent across Malawi.
The AUSC Region 5 games is an event that brings together young athletes from across the region according them a platform to compete at a high level.
In 2022, team Malawi won four bronze medals during the 2022 AUSC games held in Lilongwe.
The event is free of charge and it will start from 1pm.
