PROJECTM GLITTERS IN FIRST ANNIVERSARY

ProjectM, a media company producing positive news about Malawi and marked the first anniversary with a splendid event that befittingly reflected its mission and vision.

The event, held at Victoria Gardens in the heart of Blantyre in a cool and humid atmosphere gave a rare treat characterised by an aura of rich traditional offering in poetry, music performance as well as traditional dances.

The presence of celebrated musician Penjani Kalua, fondly known by his showbuzz name Fredokiss, who was the one of the high profile guests, set the tone for the spectacular night of celebration.

He did not perform, but his speech, which waxed lyrical about ProjectM’s mission, inspired the youthful-dominated audience.

In line with promoting Malawi, in entrepreneurship and culture, poets Mike Njoka and Monalisa Alfonso as well as musicians Walinase Mahimba and Isaac Njoka gave a great performance.

The ambience of the room was superb in its décor which was congruently matched by the traditional outfits of Malawian wear that the guests had put on.

Gulewamkule dance in different genres added the icing on the cake with an extended performance which was warmly greeted by the appreciative patrons.

The event could not have been celebrated better than in the middle of Malawi joining the world in celebrating World Tourism Month.

The cool-calm and collective master of ceremonies Jabulani Mandala populary known as JustJay265 was on point. He directed the ceremony with a sense of creativity and level-headedness.

In his speech, guest of honour Blantyre City Council Deputy Mayor Jomo Osman, commended ProjectM for setting the trend in promoting Malawi through coverage of positive news.

He said: “I am impressed with the vision and mission of ProjectM, which is to be patriotic to our country. It should start with us to love our country.

“I am particularly impressed to see that the company is led by young people in media production, promotion of culture and entrepreneurship.”

Osman, who called his rise from a non-entity to a leader a project, promised to work with the organisation with his street-connected children empowerment initiative.

During the event, a minute of silence was observed in honour of Malawi Defence Force Major General Namwali (retired) who died in June aged 86.

ProjectM executive director Jeremy Namwali is son to Major General Namwali who served in MDF in the 70s after completing studies as one of the first four commissioned officers.
