After a week of non-stop action, cheers and friendly rivalry, Parachute Battalion has emerged the overall winner of the 2025 Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Inter-Service Sports Festival held at the Malawi Armed Forces College in Salima.
The competition brought together service men and women from across the country, showcasing not only their strength but also their spirit of togetherness.
Parachute Battalion claimed the top spot and received K5 million in prize money. Second Malawi Rifles (Kamuzu Barracks) secured the second position while Third Malawi Rifles (Moyale Barracks) came third.
Though trophies were awarded, MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri reminded the troops that the objective was networking than just winning.
“The sports festivals are meant to, among others, identify talent so that we can compete strongly at national level. We want to give civilians a tough competition. The games are also meant to give our troops opportunity to interact, network and build friendship,” he said.
The grand finale, graced by the Commander himself, was packed with energy as finals in football, tug of war, and athletics, among others, kept the crowd on their feet.
But beyond the noise and the medals, the true victory was the bond built among the soldiers who train to defend the nation.
