Oxfam Malawi says it has managed to withdraw 1032 girls from child marriages since 2019 who have been readmitted to school.
Country Director for the organisation, Lingalireni Mihowa disclosed this development.
She said Oxfam Malawi has managed to bring back to school over 2,000 learners.
Mihowa told ProjectM that through the project dubbed “Her Future Her Choice” operating in Balaka rural and Lilongwe rural the organization has reached out to over 40,000 youths who were unable to access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Services.
“It is pleasing to note that more youths are in position to have the said services easily,” she said.
Gender and Community Development Minister, Jean Sendeza thanked Oxfam Malawi for the project which has a great impact on the youth.
She has called on local organisations to carry out the efforts of the project.
The minister also said the project on the other hand has strengthened gender-based violence support systems.
“It has increased access to SRHR services amongst the youths in the project,” she said.
Global Affairs Canada was funding the project for five years in Balaka and Lilongwe.
