Nyala Park is a private owned wildlife reserve found in the Shire Valley district of Chikwawa.
The park is established in a large sugarcane plantation at Nchalo in the district.
It covers an area of about 7.94 kilometers within the sugarcane estate and is owned by Illovo Sugar Company.
The main gate to Nyala Park is next to Mbewe Extension Planning Area (EPA) along the Chikwawa to Nchalo M1 road.
A resident at Area 4 within the sugar estate, Martin Bithi said the park in question has various wildlife which attracts people to come and visit the place.
He told ProjectM that there is always a fee at the entry point to Nyala Park which one is required to pay.
“An adult is charged between K4,000 to K6,000 per head while children below the age of twelve are free,” he said.
Grace Maliko concurs with Bithi saying the park has a quiet place as the wildlife enjoy the environment.
She said the wildlife reserve has a number of wildlife which includes nyala, kudu, zebra, giraffe just to name but afew of them.
” One is always free to be guided by a Tour Guide or not whenever you have paid an entrance fee. The guide also requires to be paid separately,” Maliko said.
Division Manager for Lower Shire,Parks and Wildlife, Wisely Kawaye has confirmed that Illovo Sugar Company has their own wildlife reserve within their sugarcane estate.
He said there is a good relationship between the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and the management of Illovo Sugar Company.
