Mary Mbalazada, an up-and-coming female entrepreneur based in Area 23, Lilongwe has made a difference through production of several products which she is selling at a cheaper price among her village people.
Mbalazada, who is a nursing graduate from the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) manufacturers products such as bar soap, petroleum jelly (komba), glycerin and dish paste, just to mention a few.
She sells the products to Area 23 residents in Lilongwe and Binya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
She decided to pursue a career in manufacturing after receiving training from Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira, a renowned entrepreneur, innovator and executive director of PIC-Malawi.
Said Mbalazada: “I am a keen follower of Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira’s online manufacturing trainings. That’s how I obtained knowledge of how to manufacture certain products using locally available raw materials.
“The trainings combined with entrepreneurship knowledge I acquired in class motivated me to start manufacturing products and venture into entrepreneurship.”
At first, her products were only sold to villagers in Binya Village. But with time, a lot of people started requesting for them.
“This prompted me to start manufacturing at a larger scale and started selling the products in Area 23, Lilongwe,” said Mbalazada.
Her dream is to see her products being sold countrywide.
She has since advised women to venture into entrepreneurship to support their men or husbands to fend for them.
Innocent Kabango, a resident of Chilinde One in Lilongwe has hailed Mbalazada’s products, calling them reliable.
Kabango has told ProjectM that he usually purchases dish paste from Mbalazada, a product he uses to wash his car.
