Nsanje District Council has been awarded for performing well in the implementation of the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP).
Social Welfare Officer responsible for Social Cash Transfer Programme for Nsanje Abdul-Razack Duwa said the achievement is because of a good coordination among the stakeholders in the district.
Duwa told ProjectM that the adherence to the activities assigned to the people in Nsanje has been key to the award.
He disclosed that Nsanje has 7074 beneficiaries on the SCTP.
“We are encouraging the beneficiaries to develop a saving culture so that they can start small-scale businesses,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries Sellina Mpindamalata has hailed the government’s programme of the SCTP, saying it has transformed the livelihoods.
She said people started receiving K50,000 but now they are getting K70,000.
“I have started a business with the resources from the programme,” she said.
