Nkhata Bay District Council has launched a K248 million project to construct a health post in Thotho, a hard to reach area.
The project, financed by the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) programme, aims at improving healthcare services in the district.
According to George Gopani, Acting Director of Public Works for Nkhata Bay, the project demonstrates the council’s commitment to improving healthcare services in the district.
“The health post will benefit over 15,000 people who currently travel long distances to access healthcare services,” he said.
The project is scheduled to be completed within 120 days, and the council has assured the community of intensified monitoring to ensure the delivery of a quality project.
In his remarks, Traditional Authority (T/A)Khoza pledged support for the contractor and emphasised the importance of the health post, especially expectant women who struggle to access healthcare services.
“We will provide all the necessary support to the contractor to ensure that the project is completed on time and to the required standards,” said the T/A.
The construction of the Thotho Health Post is a collaborative effort between Nkhata Bay District Council, the National Local Government Finance Committee and the Governance to Enable Service Delivery program, with funding from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund and the World Bank.
