Lilongwe based actor Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma is set to carry the country’s flag at the African Monologue Challenge scheduled to take place on 28th July in Uganda this year.
Ngoma made it to the final top 10 of the season in April this year with the first season taking place in 2022 in which 500 people applied and 200 successful applicants across the globe.
Africa Monologue Challenge is an initiative that promotes African creativity through monologues and production of yearly Pan-African films with 10 finalists, nurturing African acting talent and fostering a united and collaborative African talent among others.
Speaking in an interview with ProjectM Ngoma said preparations are going on well and he is looking forward to the competition.
“Preparations are going on well and it’s going to be a tough competition as we were 50 of us across Africa but after series of competitions and task, only ten of us remain to compete for the grand price and that is a title of Best Actor Africa”, he explained.
Ngoma is known for being featured in films such as The boy who harnessed the wind a movie that was submitted for Oscar Award in 2020, Is the President dead, Fatsani and Submerged among others.
Ngoma is however appealing for financial assistance for the cost of a return ticket which is 1.7 Million Kwacha.
“The organizers are sponsoring everything except travel and I would like to plead to well wishers for assistance so that I can go and represent Malawi”, he explained.
Should Ngoma be successful, he will win a cash prize of USD 1000 and Malawi will be the setting of a pan African film which will feature actors from across Africa.
