NGO HANDS OVER 7 BOREHOLES WORTHY K38.5M IN CHIKWAWA

The Malawi Relief Fund (MRF) UK has handed seven boreholes to the communities of Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikwawa valued at K38.5 million to help address water access challenges.

Administration Officer for MRF UK, Ishaih Missi said her organisation came to Chikwawa Nkombezi after being informed about problems people face to access potable water in the constituency.

“Let us take care of the boreholes for them to serve the intended purpose,” she said.

Earlier, Water and Sanitation Minister Abida Sidik Mia said she is delighted that water has finally reached out to the people.

Mia, who is also the Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi, hailed the Malawi Relief Fund UK for the quick response to the concern.

“I am aware that there are few villages in the constituency who still have no access to safer water,” she said.

GroupVillageHeadman Paiva said the coming of the boreholes people in his area and the surrounding villages will be having fresh water.

“Women and girls were the victims of traveling long distances to fetch for water,” said the traditional leader.
