NGO EMPOWERS 100 WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

In a bid to promote financial independence among women, a Kasungu-based NGO, Girls on the Lead, is supporting 100 young women with various business items.

On Wednesday, the organisation supported 47 young women in Kasungu District with items to boost their economic status.

Some of the items included groceries, saloon equipment, flour and Irish potatoes, depending on their businesses.

Speaking with ProjectM in an interview, Susan Chisi Executive director for the organisation said they want to promote gender equality through economic empowerment.

“This is a project called Empower Her. So, we will be training women on financial literacy, economic inequality and savings to bring a positive impact on them. To achieve this, we are boosting their businesses,” she said.

Chisi added that through the project they also want the women to contribute to the economic development of the country.

Taonga Tembo, one of the beneficiaries from the programme, has hailed Girls on the lead for the program.

“I have received a bag of powdered soap and I am going to venture into a surf making business. Am very confident that this will improve my livelihood,” she said.

This 6-years-Empower Her project is currently being implemented in Senior Chief Lukwa, in Kasungu District, with the financial support from Women First International.

Girls on he Lead is an organization that is aimed at empowering girls and women to have productive lives through respect of their rights and provision of financial support.
