NEW PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUMS TO FOCUS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Ministry of Education says preparations in readiness for the roll out of new primary and secondary school curriculums are at an advanced stage.

The ministry says the new curriculums have incorporated what it described as a “strong element of academic excellence and technological vocational skills for the labour market”.

The ministry’s spokesperson Mphatso Nkuonera has also indicated that learners will also benefit from entrepreneurship guidelines that have also been incorporated in the new curriculum.

“As a ministry, we are ready to roll out the new curriculums beginning September 2024,” he said.

Lower level primary school learners and secondary school learners from forms 1-3 will have the new curriculums beginning September 2024.

“By September 2025, all classes will have the new curriculums because we are commencing September this year,” said Nkuonera.

Education analyst Island Mtambo has since described the development as long overdue.

“For a long time, we have been urging authorities to revamp the school curriculum and incorporate entrepreneurship and skills development and I am personally happy that our calls have been accepted,” he said.

Other preparations, including assessments by relevant stakeholders have already been concluded.
