State-owned money lending institution, National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) has underscored the need for the youth to focus on self-employment than hunting for white-collar jobs.
NEEF has also underlined the need for Malawian youth to take advantage of various loan facilities being offered by the entity.
NEEF Chief Executive Officer, Humphrey Mdyetseni made the remarks Tuesday in Zomba during an awareness meeting targeting youth.
Addressing the gathering, Mdyetseni called on the youth to venture into entrepreneurship, saying time for hunting white-collar jobs is over as they are currently scarce.
He said NEEF, which is one of the country’s leading money lending institutions, is ready to support youth who are ready to pursue productive businesses.
“We ask or implore youth here in Zomba to take advantage of NEEF’s loan disbursement facilities to venture into meaningful entrepreneurship in a bid to be productive and key players of national development,” he said.
The NEEF CEO said currently, the entity is disbursing irrigation loans in form of seeds, fertiliser, chemicals and water pumps to boost winter cropping.
“These are type of loans we are calling Micro irrigation loans and they are one of the easiest loans to get from NEEF,” said Mdyetseni.
He then urged the youth to be focused and visionary to achieve their goals.
In his remarks, Zomba Youth Empowerment Forum member Cosama Elimia thanked NEEF for engaging them.
“We are grateful to NEEF for engaging us and I believe my colleagues here will now flock there to access various loan facilities for investment,” said Elimia.
The gathering brought together over 50 youths from Zomba City under the Zomba Youth Empowerment Forum.
