MZUZU YOUTHS TRAINED IN GREEN INNOVATION

Female members, under the Tobvilane Organisation based in Mzuzu City have undergone a three-day training dubbed “Green Innovation”, which is being touted as essential in dealing with rapid climate change.

Among others, the trading was held to equip youths with skills on how they can manufacture environmentally friendly products.

Lead trainer, who is the executive director of Lilongwe based Organization, Youth Action for Success and Development (YASD), Edward Chidombe Msiska has told ProjectM in an interview that the skills will also help the participants to identify environmental conservation skills that suit their needs.

“As a nation, currently fighting environmental degradation, training youths in such skills would help to slow environmental degradation particularly in cities such as Mzuzu,” he said.

Among others, participants at the training were trained on how they can manufacture charcoal briquettes, organic fertilizers, composite manure and grass bottle cutting, just to mention a few.

“I am very sure that these skills will champion green innovations and I am eager to see results,” said Msiska.

One of the trainees, Nyasha Msukwa commended YASD for organizing the training, saying it will help her venture into entrepreneurship.

YASD is conducting similar training in the country’s major towns and cities under a project called Local Green Innovation Project (LOGIC) which seeks to train participants in diverse skills in green technology.

In June 2024, the ministry of trade and industry through its spokesperson Patrick Botha described the training as vital in eradicating over reliance on imports.
