Mzuni Alumni Make a Difference

In a powerful gesture of hope, Mzuzu University Alumni Northern Region has stepped in to combat the financial hardships faced by students through their “Adopt the Needy Students” initiative.

The alumni donated K2.9 million, covering tuition fees for six students and providing accommodation and necessities for nine others.

This life-changing contribution aims to bridge the gap for students struggling to stay in school due to financial challenges.

Alumni President for the North, Douglas Nyirenda, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in empowering education, urging individuals and organizations to join the cause.

The donation has sparked gratitude among beneficiaries like James Stewart, who described the support as a lifeline for learners at risk of dropping out.

University Librarian Dr. Aubrey Chaputula lauded the initiative, highlighting the urgent need for increased government funding to the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board to support more students.

With over 20 students withdrawing this semester alone due to financial difficulties, the initiative not only alleviates immediate struggles but also inspires a culture of giving back.

As Mzuni Alumni demonstrate, empowering education is a shared mission capable of transforming lives and securing brighter futures for Malawi’s youth.
