Mzimba Youth Organisation Produces Avocado Cooking Oil

In a bid to address the rising cost of cooking oil, Mzimba Youth Organization (MYO) has embarked on an innovative project to produce avocado oil for cooking.

The organization, which focuses on empowering youths and women, has identified avocado as a viable raw material for oil production. According to Anthony Botha, Head of Programs at MYO, extracting oil from avocado is cost-effective and simple.

“We are training communities, especially youths and women, to produce cooking oil in their households at the cheapest cost possible,” Botha said.

Botha emphasized that the project’s goal is to promote self-sufficiency and economic empowerment among community members.

“By producing their own cooking oil, communities can reduce their reliance on expensive imported oil and invest their savings in other income-generating activities,” he added.

The project is still in its research phase, but MYO has already produced 6 liters of avocado oil. The organization plans to scale up production and distribution in the near future.

This initiative is part of MYO’s broader efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods, food security, and economic empowerment among young people and women in Mzimba.

By pioneering avocado oil production, MYO is providing a innovative solution to the challenges of food insecurity and economic instability in the region.
