MPIRA TV REVENUE UP BY 258 PERCENT

Mpira TV has accumulated K105.5 million in subscription revenue in the first half of the 2024 season, representing a 258 percent increase in gross revenue generated during the same period last year.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Broadcasting and Marketing Manager Tulipo Mwenelupembe said they are impressed considering that the season started in April this year. 

Mwenelupembe said the subscription base for the TV across the three host broadcasters which include Zuku, Azam and Starsat has also increased by 279 percent from 14,060 to 53, 345 in the same period. 

He adds: “From the net of K49.3 million compared to K13.3 million in 2023, the 16 Super League teams shared 80 percent of K39.5 million against K10.7 million which represents a 272 percent increase.

However, each team has received K2.4 million from K831,000 in 2023 and the remaining 20 percent net revenue of K9.8 million has been shared by Football Association of Malawi (FAM), and Super league of Malawi (SULOM), which is up from K2.6 Million in 2023.  

According to the marketing manager, total direct expenses amounted to K56.2 million against K16.1 million in 2023, with K4.1 million being administration, K12.3 million for the host producer and the rest of the three host broadcasters. 

“The remaining months are key for us to increase our revenue. We are intensifying our marketing efforts through regular engagements with all the clubs as best efforts to promote the product,’’ he said. 

On his part, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya underscored his administration’s commitment to contributing to healthy financial base in football. 

“In our quest to transform the game, we strive to generate more revenue for the clubs in every possible way. TVs and broadcasting rights is one area we are firmly focusing on to achieve strong financial results,’’ said Haiya.
