MOC, ESSENTIAL TOURS REWARD ASIMENYE

Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) and Essential Tours Limited on Sunday rewarded short distance runner Asimenye Simwaka with K2 million at MOC offices in Lilongwe.

MOC and Essential Tours Limited each presented K1 million as a token of appreciation for winning the bronze medal in 200 metre race at the Senior African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon last week.

MOC secretary general Henry Sakala said they rewarded the decorated sprinted for her outstanding performance in the competition

Sakala said: “Apart from facilitating all training camps, sending athletes to various Paris qualifiers, the MOC board thought of giving Simwaka K1 million as a token of appreciation for her achievement. It is not easy to claim bronze at such a prestigious competition.”

Luwayo also said they rewarded the 26-year-old athlete with K1 million and a dinner at either the Bingu International Convention Centre or Sunbird Capital Hotel, depending on her choice.

“Simwaka has made Malawi proud and she deserves to be appreciated in such a special way,” he said.

Simwaka, who arrived from Cameroon on Sunday, described the rewards as a big motivation.

“I am very excited. This encourages me to work extra harder in my next endeavors. May God bless them,” she said.

Meanwhile, Malawi Athletics also gave her a warm welcome on her arrival at Kamuzu International on Sunday in the morning.

Well-wishers also presented a cake to her for making Malawi proud.
