Labour Minister Agnes Nyalonje says the review of Labour Laws is of great importance aimed at revamping Malawi’s productivity.
She made the remarks during the Labour Laws Reviews Consultantive workshop in Blantyre.
Nyalonje told ProjectM that the review of Labour Laws has come at the time when there are some gaps which have come due to the old policies which are helpless to the country.
“There is a need to attend to the policies that govern the labour sector, review the registration of legal framework for the new registration will help us clean what is not helping Malawi,” she said.
The minister added that her ministry is in the final stages of producing a roadmap aimed at extending social protection through Global Accelerator on Job and Social Protection for Just Transition (GA).
Executive Director of Employees Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) George Khaki has expressed gratitude for the workshop as labour laws play an important role in maintaining a good relationship between the employees and employers.
“It creates a fair and equitable working environment for the stakeholders beginning from employees, employers, government and the country as whole is our priority. Labour Laws are catalysts for the national development that is in line with Malawi 2063 Agenda.
The workshop was held under the theme ‘Strengthening of Labour Laws for Attainment of Accent Jobs and Sustainable Economic Development’ which was organised by the European Union (EU) Zantchito Programme.
