MINISTER URGES COUNCILS TO USE THEIR OWN FUNDS

The Deputy Health Minister Halima Daudi has urged district councils in the country to use their own resources in the rehabilitation of some developmental projects within their districts.

Daudi said the government has given powers to all the council through the decentralisation.

Speaking to ProjectM, Daudi said there is no need for the councils to ask for funds from the Central Government for monitor projects in the districts.

“Councils have funds which they can use in the administration of any projects within themselves,” she said.

Earlier Nsanje Central Parliamentarian Kafandikhale Mandevana has asked the government to intervene in the rehabilitation of the Nsanje District Hospital mortuary which has not been functional for a long time.

He said the morgue has a non-operational coldroom which is not serving its purpose.

“Bodies are not kept for long time in the mortuary because of the non working of the coldroom,” said the MP.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Chimombo has appealed to government to consider upgrading Chimombo Health Unit to a Health Post.

He noted that as a Health Unit it is failing to carry out duties effectively.
