Mining Ministry Gears Up for 2025 Investment Forum

The Ministry of Mining says all is set for the second Malawi Mining Investment Forum (MMIF-2025) expected to be held from the 28-29 April at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

Minister of Mining Ken Zikhale-Ng’oma has confirmed about the development, saying preparations in readiness for the event, are at an advanced stage.

Zikhale Ng’oma said the forum, which will be opened by President Lazarus Chakwera, will be held under the theme; Advancing Malawi’s Mining Agenda in an Evolving Global Industry.

The minister said this year’s event is expected to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local and international partners.

“We are expecting a diverse group of like-minded investors that have the zeal for investment in the country’s mining sector which is full of potential,” he said.

He added that this year’s forum will draw lessons from the previous one, especially the need to increase youth involvement, as young people bring innovation and creativity to the sector.

“We are even drafting guidelines that will ensure effective participation of youths in the mining sector,” said Ng’oma.

The ministry has further indicated that the MMIF-2025 will act as a platform for dialogue and partnerships aimed at advancing the country’s mining sector and attracting more investment.

Meanwhile, NICO group of companies has contributed K50 million towards preparations for the event.

The group’s business development executive, Zizwani Khonje said the donation has been made in recognition of the important role the mining sector plays in driving the local economy.

“We are hoping to see mining become one of the main hubs of the economy,” said Khonje.

This year’s forum comes as Malawi hopes to turn the mining sector into one of the main drivers of the economy as the nation hopes to achieve the Malawi 2063 development goals.

According to authorities, currently, the sector is contributing less than 1 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
