Farmers in the next growing season will have more Fertilizer options available on the local market following the introduction of a new variety of fertilizer called MI Mbeya Organic fertilizer.
The fertilizer is being produced by a Lilongwe based company called MI Technology And Innovations.
Prolific innovator and managing director of MI Technology And Innovations, Innocent Mandili has told ProjectM in an interview that the fertilizer is one hundred percent organic and reliable.
Mandili said production process of the product involves the use of Chicken droppings, Lime and Ash.
“This fertilizer has been tested and tried by experts from the Chitedze Research Station in Lilongwe under the department of soils and fertilizer,” Mandili said.
Last growing season, the company engaged some farmers who applied the fertilizer on a trial basis and all of them have brought back positive feedback.
“This feedback has given us a good platform to start distributing the product on an industrial scale,” said Mandili.
Currently, the company, which is relatively new and owned by an 18 year-old Mandili, is ramping up production with an average output of 50 bags per week.
Government through the ministry of trade and industry has since commended Mandili for coming up with the innovation, saying it has the potential to reduce the burden of importing more fertilizer.
Trade and industry spokesperson Patrick Botha has also indicated that government will introduce favourable conditions for such innovations to thrive.
Is this fertilizer we also mixed with Urea or NPK fertilizer?
