Blantyre-based multifaceted entrepreneur, innovator and medical doctor Thunyako Vitumbiko Mfune is making a name for himself in the agricultural sector after setting up a manufacturing company that specializes in inventing and manufacturing various agricultural implements.
The holder of Bachelor of Science in Medicine, Surgery and Doctor of Medicine in Oncolody from the University of Edinburgh in UK, is the Director, lead engineer and owner of Thunyako Machineries, a company based in Blantyre.
Registered in 2022, the company has become one of the country’s leading producers and suppliers of machineries such as peanut butter making machines, pellet making machines, sugarcane crushers and oil extractors, just to mention a few.
Mfune has told ProjectM that he established the company after noticing a gap on the local market.
“We initially started with a trial in peanut butter making machines only to realise that the local market needed more machines to help farmers add value to their produce,” he said.
With a workforce of 6 workers, the company has made it its priority to produce high quality agricultural machinery capable of competing on the international market.
“Apart from supplying our products locally, our machines have also penetrated the Zambian and South African markets,” said Mfune.
Thunyako Machineries has also earned the praise of Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational and Education Training Authority which has started sending students to further their skills through the company.
Meanwhile, Mfune says his goal is to see Thunyako Machineries dominate the local market.
