In a move to promote the welfare of the elderly, the Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organization (MANEPO) has unveiled its plans to offer an ambassadorship role, to 74-year-old artist, Christina Kholiwo, popularly known as Jetu.
According to information from the organisation, the artist will be championing stereotypes against the elderly.
Jetu is a Blantyre-based musician who has become the talk of town for defied age to become a celebrity in her own right.
Early this month, she released a song titled “Chakwaza” , a song about a woman who has dedicated her life to chasing money after being heart-broken by her ex-lover.
Jetu continues to become the centre of attention prompting Entertainers Promotions to give her and her manager their flight experience while others offered her a 6.5 million plot.
Speaking with ProjectM in an interview, MANEPO Executive Director Andrew Kavala said discussions for the move have reached an advanced stage.
“Jetu has accepted the offer of the ambassadorship, once the paper-work for the contract is done they will announce it to Malawians,” he explained.
Kavala added that the organization has come up with the decision considering how Jetu is impacting the society and they believe this will help to disseminate information about caring for the elderly.
