MAN MAKES A KILLING FROM POULTRY FARMING

Ntcheu-based man Masiye Kaliyati has become an instant millionaire in just a few months through poultry farming he launched last year.

The farmer from Senzani 1 Village in Traditional Authority Phambala has been practicing subsistence farming for many years.

But in March last year, Kaliyati decided to venture into full scale commercial farming, investing over K600,000 into his poultry farming.

“I was among a group of like-minded individuals from our village who were given loans to boost their businesses by the state owned National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF),” he said.

Through the loan, Kaliyati managed to purchase more materials needed for a successful poultry farming business.

“Since then, my business output has immensely increased as I am now able to sell poultry products such as meat and eggs,” he said.

Through the business, the entrepreneur has managed to employ three individuals, two men and a woman, who take care of his farm.

“My monthly profits have also greatly improved, a development that has enabled me to employ these people,” he added.

Currently, Kaliyati has told ProjectM that he is contemplating on diversifying his business by investing an additional k5 million which will go towards crop farming using manure collected from the pourtly farm.

Meanwhile, Small-scale Business Operators Association of Malawi, an organisation that looks after the interests of local business operators has hailed Kaliyati for graduating from subsistence farming to commercial farming.

The organisation’s general secretary Tennyson Mulimbula has told ProjectM that they are ready to support him.
