MALAWI’S SOCCER STAR SET FOR MILESTONE IN US

Temwa Chawinga is on the verge of breaking a league record as a top scorer for consecutive matches if she scores against North Carolina this weekend.

Chawinga might break a record if she surpasses Abby Wambach (2013), Kim Little (2014), Sam Kerr (2018-2019) and Diana Ordóñez (2022) for consecutive regular season games with a goal.

Currently, she is also the top goal scorer in the National Women’s Supper League (NSWL) with 13 goals scored for her club, Kansas City Current surpassing her opponent Zambian Barbara Banda playing for Orlando Pirates who has 12 goals.

Chawinga and Banda have also been nominated for the golden boot award in the National Women’s League (NSWL).

Chawinga’s contribution has seen Kansas being crowned as the Summer Women’s Cup Champions, currently her club is in top 4 with 35 points in women’s league.

Last year, Chawinga was the world’s goal scorer for 2023 for both her club and country having scored 83 goals in 84 games played with Wuhan Jiang University FC.

She also earned the Golden boot in the 2023 COSAFA women’s cup.

Chawinga joined Kansas City in January this year for a two-year contract.
