Malawi’s Minister of Trade to Attend UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce Scotland Chapter Launch

Minister of Trade and Industry for the Republic of Malawi, Honourable Vitumbiko Mumba, will attend the official launch of the UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce Scotland Chapter on Wednesday, in Edinburgh City Chambers.

The UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce (UKMCC), in partnership with the Scotland Malawi Partnership and the Malawi High Commission UK announced in a statement.

The statement further said this milestone occasion will bring together Scottish and Malawian business leaders, diaspora entrepreneurs, development partners and government officials to celebrate and strengthen bilateral trade and investment relationships.

The UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce is an apolitical, member-led organisation that operates independently to promote trade and investment.

It receives support from both the Government of Malawi and the Government of the United Kingdom, in this case the Scottish Government, thereby reinforcing its position as a reliable platform for collaborative economic development.

Reads the statement in part: “The presence of Honourable Mumba underscores the Malawi Government’s strong commitment to promoting economic diplomacy, attracting foreign direct investment and building sustainable international partnerships.

Malawi’s High Commission to UK Dr. Thomas Bisika, Malawi’s High Commissioner, who is also Patron of the UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce, stated: “Malawi is ready for business. As we aspire to become an upper middle-income and self-reliant country, it is clear that trade and investment will be important.

“The UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce is well positioned to support UK businesses planning to invest in Malawi. The launch of the Scotland Chapter will add impetus to Malawi’s quest for increased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).”

Chairperson of UK-MCC Edgar Chibaka said
this was a defining moment for Malawi–Scotland relations.

He said: “We are excited to welcome Honourable Mumba and other distinguished guests to Edinburgh. The Scotland Chapter represents our commitment to enabling trade through diaspora-led structures and building a new era of economic collaboration. We invite businesses, investors and changemakers to be part of this transformative journey.”

CEO of the Scotland Malawi Partnership Stuart Brown said the launch would represent a natural evolution of the deep people-to-people links that Scotland and Malawi have built over generations.

“We’re proud to support this initiative, which brings economic opportunity into the heart of that partnership. It’s about promoting fair, ethical and inclusive trade that benefits both nations and creating new connections that will last long into the future,” he said.

The UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce-Scotland Chapter will serve as a vital platform to support market access, investment readiness, policy dialogue, and sustainable trade partnerships.

With growing interest in priority sectors such as agro-processing, renewable energy, manufacturing, and tourism, Malawi offers vast potential for inclusive growth.

The event will be moderated by Hannington Gondwe, CEO of the UK-Malawi Chamber of Commerce while Mumba, Dr. Bisika, Chibaka, who is also UKMCC Chairperson and Co-Founder First Response Group, Managing Director, True Origin Tracy Mitchell, Robert Anderson, Managing Director African Lakes Company, Louise Davies, Chief Executive Scottish Fair Trade and Cameron McAllister, Director MF Coffee will be among speakers.
