MALAWI’S BASKETBALL OFFICIAL JOINS AFRICA BODY

Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) Director of Women’s desk Lisungu Banda has joined the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 secretariat as operations manager.

The appointment was made with effect from September 1 and she will be based in Gaborone, Botswana.

Reads the statement in part: “Ausc Region 5 warmly welcomes Lisungu Ethel Banda to the family. She joins the young vibrant Region 5 family as first ever female manager. 

“We wish Miss Banda a very enriching experience in the family. Region 5 is a leading home of innovation and experience.”

Basmal also acknowledge Banda’s appointment, saying it has opened a new chapter in her career book.

Reads the statement in part: ‘We are thrilled to announce that our Director of Women Basketball Lisungu Banda has been appointed as the Operations Manager the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5. This prestigious role is based in Gaborone, Botswana and marks a significant milestone in Lisungu’s illustrious career.”

Basmal further said her appointment signifies her commitment to the game.

“Her appointment is not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the entire basketball community in Malawi. We are confident that she will bring her exceptional skills and leadership to AUSC.”

In her remarks, Banda said she is delighted with the appointment.

“I have always loved sport and I hope the platform will help to open doors for athletes, technical officials and all sports administrators in the region to shine,” she said.

Malawi National Council of Sports also congratulated her on the appointment.
