MALAWIAN POET FEATURES IN COMMONWEALTH PODCAST

Malawian poet and spoken word artist Tendai M Shaba has been featured in the Commonwealth Podcast.

Commonwealth Podcast is aimed at celebrating poetry in the 56 Commonwealth countries, including Malawi.

Speaking with ProjectM in an interview, Shaba said he is excited to be recognised as an impactful Malawian Poet.

“It’s a great honour being recognized as an impactful poet by the Commonwealth and the University of Chester in the UK. The recognition means something great both to me and the nation and there are more stories I would like to tell,” he explained.

Commonwealth Poetry Podcast releases poetry episodes in which they talk about their poetry, an author of poetry and given a chance to share some of their poems.

Shaba is well-known for authoring “A Lady in A Yellow Dress” which is a second poetry book that he released last year.

The Lady in Yellow Dress is a collection of poems that is written to inspire positive thoughts and overall positive emotional wellness.

“The colour yellow is often associated with sunshine and happiness. The poems are written to inspire good emotional health for all who seek sunshine and happiness within themselves,” he explained.

Shaba is also an activist who has been involved in, mental health awareness, women and youth empowerment, gender-based violence elimination, labour, productivity, climate change and safe motherhood campaigns.

“In 2023, I collaborated with former President of Malawi, Dr Joyce Banda, on a new poem which addresses gaps ahead of the 2023International Women’s Day,” he said.
