Malawian football star Sherry Msuku Junior is following in the footsteps of his father after securing a scholarship to study a bachelor’s degree in sports management at the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana.
Son of former Mighty Wanderers and Flames midfielder Sherry Msuku, Sherry Junior play for FC Thondwe formerly Zampira Academy.
The 21-year-old defender secured the deal through United States of America-based-Malawian agent Duncan Chalulu.
FC Thondwe spokesperson McDonald Chalulu said the players left last week and will play for the university’s team while pursuing his studies.
“The sponsor of FC Thondwe is ambitious and he would like to use his connections to assist talented Malawian youthful players who are also doing well in class. They will be studying while playing football for the school.
“Our mission is to take the team to the Premier League and if possible, to the Super League. We have ambition to promote talent at the grassroots. Right now we have started in Blantyre, but we would like to establish a football academy in Thondwe, Zomba,
“This will lead to the players securing lucrative professional deals. The sponsor of FC Thondwe has big plans to connect those talented players, who are also performing well in class, to secure scholarships.”
Msuku confirmed that his son has joined the university to study while playing for the university.
“I am happy that he has secured the scholarship to study in the US and I expect that he will do well both in school and his football career,” he said.
FC Thondwe Lewis Minjale said the player is talented and works hard.
“He is a good player. Has a good height and physique. We wish him well to succeed,”
FC Thondwe was formed by former players such as Vincent Gona, Fischer Kondowe, Fundu Akidu and is coached by Lewis Minjale.
