MALAWIAN FEMALE BOXER WINS NON-TITLE BOUT IN TANZANIA

South Africa-based Malawian female boxer Ellen Simwaka won an eight-round bantamweight non-title after beating Tanzanian opponent Jesca Mfinanga on Saturday in Dar es Salaam.

In a bout monitored on Azam TV, the Malawi was in full control from the first round one.

Simwaka nearly secured a knockout in the fifth round when she dazzled her opponent with hot jabs that sent her down. But The Tanzanian recovered to continue the fight.

No wonder, at the end of the eight-round bout, she was declared the winner on unanimous points decision.

In a post on her Meta Page, formerly Facebook, Simwaka paid tribute to her team who played various roles for hervictory.

Reads the post: “First of all I want to thank God, for the win victory belongs to Jesus Hallelujah and for this opportunity. Secondly, I am deeply grateful for this incredible support you guys have shown me. could not have done it without your support and I’m deeply grateful to all of guys.

Other than her boxing stable, Mitchell Boxing Academy, she also acknowledged Malawian promoter Japhet Majeke for the success.

Tanzanian sports firm Fayheroes Sports Promotion organised the fight dubbed Fayheroes Fighting Competition Season-5.

Simwaka is a former World Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) champion.

Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board general secretary Johnny Palichesi Jnr, said Simwak has done Malawi proud.

The victory has taken her record to 13 wins, two draws and seven losses from 22 bouts.
