Malawi’s women’s football star Rose Kabzere scored her first goal in the French top-flight women’s league on Saturday in her team’s 7-0 triumph over Guingamp.
The Scorchers forward came in as a 70th minute substitute and inspired her team to victory.
Kabzere also provided an assist for the sixth goal in the 75th minute and opened her goal-scoring account in the 80th minute.
Nigerian Ifeoma Onumonu, Haitian defender Kethna Louis and Kabzere scored a goal each while Cameroonian Nina Soufiya Ngueleu and Lea Khelifa scored two goals each.
Montpellier were sixth position in the 12- team league with 10 points from six matches.
National Women’s Football Association chairperson Adellaide Migogo said her performance on Saturday was proof that she is settling down.
“Her performance was impressive and if she keeps her cool, she will make it big,” she said.
France-based Malawi National Women’s Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga, who joined Olympique Lyonnaise once posted on her Facebook Page, saying Kabzere was destined for greatness.
Reads the message in part: “The future of FAM Women’s Football looks bright. I played in a senior team at Cosafa (Council of Southern Africa Football Associations) tournament with this young girl Rose Kabzere of Ascent Soccer academy and she is a rare gem.
“Glad she led the junior scorchers today in walloping Namibia by 12 goals to nil with 6 goals to her name.
