Malawi will participate in International Hockey Federation World Youth 5’s Festival scheduled for 17 to 21 December in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Malawi will participate with funding from Malawi Olympic Committee.
Hockey Association of Malawi President Wanthaza Mughogho said the World Youth Hockey 5’s Festival is an initiative aimed st strengethening emerging nations through youth development and promotion of Olympic values.
He said: “This programme focuses on sustainable talent development pathways and will enhance Malawi’s competitive capabilities within Youth Olympic Games framework.
“The Association is confident that this experience will significantly contribute to the growth of hockey in Malawi and inspire future generations of athletes.”
Mughogho said besides the tournament the delegation will participate in intensive development programme that encompasses elite training camps, technical workshops.
“This opportunity not only provides the team with exposure to high-level competition but also sets a foundation for the long-term development of hockey in Malawi,” he said.
Mughogho said it will help Malawi prepare for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, the first Olympic Games in Africa.
MOC President Jappie Mhango promised HAM to send a team to Malaysia during a coaching course held in Blantyre recently.
The following are names of players, females Michelle Manda, Prisca Lumbalo, Blandina Chaima Lauren Kaliwo while males comprises Peter Jere, Samuel Longwe, Sayf Mia and Feston Machemba.
Keziah Kangulu and Levi Kumwenda are coaches.
